ประธานชมรมเพื่อนหญิงไทยในสหราชอาณาจักร ชุมศรี อาร์โนลด์
ประธานและสมาชิกชมรม ฯ เดินทางไปร่วมในงานประชุมประจำปีกับเครือข่ายหญิงไทยในยุโรปที่ประเทศเบลเยี่ยม เมื่อเดือนมิถุนายนศกนี้
จากจำนวนคนไทยที่เข้ามาอยู่ในประเทศอังกฤษจำนวนมาก และนับวันจะเพิ่มขึ้นเรื่อยๆ ที่ผ่านมาก็มีปํญหามากมายสำหรับผู้คนที่มาอยู่ต่างถิ่นต่างแดน แต่การรวมตัวเพื่อช่วยกันบรรเทาปัญหาดูยังไม่เพียงพอ แม้จะมีหน่วยงานและองค์กรที่คนไทยได้จัดตั้งขึ้นมาเช่น Thai help line ซึ่งเริ่มจากแม่บ้านไทยจำนวนไม่มากนักได้เสียสละเวลาส่วนตัวคอยช่วยเหลือและหารือปัญหาต่างๆ ผ่านวัดไทยพุทธประทีป เป็นเวลานานนับ 20 ปี ได้ทำประโยชน์แก่ส่วนรวมอย่างน่ายกย่อง สมควรได้รับการเผยแพร่และยอมรับอย่างเป็นทางการ
กลุ่มเพื่อนหญิงไทยที่มีสมาชิกดำเนินชีวิตอยู่ในประเทศอังกฤษมานาน ได้มีความเข้าใจและประสบปัญหานานับประการมาก่อนเช่นเดียวกัน จึงเห็นความจำเป็นที่ต้องมีช่องทางใหม่อีกเพื่อให้ความช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูลระหว่างคนไทยด้วยกันให้มากยิ่งขึ้น โลกก้าวไกลเพียงใด ปัญหาต่างๆก็ยิ่งพัฒนาขึ้นเป็นทวีคูณ และยิ่งได้เห็นการรวมตัวของเครือข่ายกลุ่มสตรีไทยในแถบยุโรปอย่างพร้อมเพรียงและสามัคคีกันอย่างกันน่าชื่นชม ซึ่งได้มีการประชุมอย่างเป็นทางการที่ประเทศอิตาลีเมื่อเร็วนี้ ทำให้กลุ่มเพื่อนหญิงไทยในประเทศอังกฤษได้หารือและเห็นพ้องกันที่จะรวมพลังหญิงไทยให้ร่วมมือร่วมใจทำประโยชน์ต่อส่วนรวมให้กับคนไทยที่นี่ และสำคัญสุดคือการเสียสละเพื่อประเทศไทยของเราทุกคน
การดำเนินการใด ๆ เพื่อส่วนรวมไม่อาจสำเร็จได้โดยลำพัง เรากลุ่มเพื่อนหญิงไทยจึงได้รวมตัวก่อตั้งเป็น “ชมรมเพื่อนหญิงไทยในสหราชอาณาจักร” หรือ Thai Women’s Organisation (UK) และได้ทำการจดทะเบียนเป็นองค์กรการกุศล (charity) หมายเลข 1121856 เพื่อทำกิจกรรมสังคมช่วยเหลือคนไทยที่นี่โดยเฉพาะกลุ่มเพื่อนหญิงไทยในประเทศอังกฤษและส่งเสริมภาพลักษณ์ของประเทศไทย “ชมรมเพื่อนหญิงไทยในสหราชอาณาจักร” จึงก่อตั้งขึ้นด้วยเจตจำนงที่จะช่วยเหลือคนไทยโดยไม่หวังประโยชน์เป็นส่วนตนสำหรับผู้ใด
วัตถุประสงค์
- เพื่อให้ข้อมูลพื้นฐานกับชาวไทยเรื่องการใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในสหราชอาณาจักร
- เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ และประสบการณ์ ในการสร้างเครือข่าย และพัฒนาบทบาทของหญิงไทยในภาคพื้นยุโรป
- เพื่อเผยแพร่ และรักษาขนบธรรมเนียม ประเพณี และวัฒนธรรมอันดีงามของคนไทย
Increasing numbers of Thai people are coming to the UK and facing all the usual difficulties associated with living in what is for them a foreign country. The existing organisations set up to resolve these difficulties cannot cope with the demand. One of these is the Thai Help Line. It started with a desk staffed by a small group of Thai housewives at the Buddhapadipa Temple, and for 20 years has listened to people’s problems and answered their questions. This has been a tremendous help to many people, and deserves recognition.
A group of Thai women who have lived in this country for a long time understand the problems that Thai people face, be they linguistic, cultural or legal. These problems are increasing in complexity. The group has therefore identified the need to find a new and better way of helping Thai people. This type of national unity is seen elsewhere - similar organisations in other European countries recently held their fifth international conference in Brussels.
In the circumstances, this group of Thai women has decided to set up an official organisation to offer more help to other Thai people living here and, more importantly, to do something for their country. The group is called the Thai Women’s Organisation (UK) or TWO which is registered as a charity with a charity number 1121856. TWO’s activities will include:
- Expanding the Thai Help Line so it can be available for longer periods.
- Publishing and distributing a handbook directed to Thai people.
- Protecting and promoting the welfare of Thai people, particularly those caught up in the police and legal processes.
- Supporting Thai language and culture classes e.g. those teaching classical dancing, music, and cooking, etc.
- Supporting Buddhist temples and monks.
- Promoting the welfare of Thai women, children and communities in Europe.
